WaterGEMS Advanced Part 12a: Workshop 6 - Auto-Isolate feature for Unidirectional Flushing
This video introduces the Auto Isolate feature in the Flushing tool in WaterGEMS and WaterCAD. I can identify valves to be closed in order to isolate a selected pipe run while a hydrant is flushed. Also, it can automatically choose the valves along the run to close which will save you time when compared to manually picking valves to close. See more:

    Can I simulate the manhole with odour control to know the percentage of h2s in the network after controlling it with the odour control?

    • @bentleyopenflows
      @bentleyopenflows 21 день назад

      Are you referring to the user of a device like the one seen here? - manholeodoreliminator.com/ If so, this appears to only filter the odors and would not impact the H2S inside the system. The calculated H2S in the OpenFlows sewer products represents the H2S concentration in the aqueous phase. The amount that escapes to the gas phase (and any interaction with odor control) depends on the turbulence, and various coefficients in Henry’s Law and is outside of scope. Hi when I try to compute the scenario using the given data, Stormcad give notification as following "The scenario has 9 active inlets, but you only have a 5 inlet license. You can choose a different license by using the Feature Level Selector" (See “Using the Feature Level Selector Tool” in Help). Calculations cannot continue." . I am pleased to take your advice.

    • @bentleyopenflows
      @bentleyopenflows Месяц назад

      Hi, you will need to select a feature level with more than 5 inlets in order to compute the model. If this is a trial license which defaults to the lowest feature level, you will need to get an academic or commercial license in order to compute models with more inlets. If you need further help, please submit a case to Technical Support via the Support Portal: bentleysystems.service-now.com/csp See also: bentleysystems.service-now.com/community?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0057141

    new subdivision of 36 homes is being constructed in a new area of town. The water supply network for the subdivision needs to be designed to meet the peak demand of 61.2 l/s (1.7 l/s per home × 36 homes). All junction nodes are 192 m in elevation. All pipes are ductile iron (C = 130). Use the Hazen-William's equation to determine the friction losses in the pipe. Tell me how to do in water gems software please sir

      I would recommend reviewing the WaterGEMS training course which you can find as a playlist on the homepage of this RUclips channel. If this is an academic assignment/homework, you may need to consult with your professor regarding constraints. There does not seem to be enough information provided in your post. For example you would need to know how many pipes there are, their length and connectivity, and where the water source is (tank? Connection to existing system? Pumped well?)

      The reservoir elevation establishes the source hydraulic grade, and the known demands dictate the outflow. The model then solves the flow and pressure resulting from those knowns.

    Hi In a 2d modeling on Sewergems (especially the water depth) does it take in consideration the flow absorbed by catch bassin in case when the road contains catch bassin connected to manholes

    • @bentleyopenflows
      @bentleyopenflows Месяц назад

      Hi - the connection of a catchbasin to a manhole would be done using a conduit, which is a sub-surface element. Meaning, surface flow (from the 2D grid, if using the 2D functionality) would first be captured by the inlet (as part of the catchbasin element), which then travels through the downstream pipe under the ground, entering the subsurface vault of the connected manhole element. The 2D surface flow will be appropriately exchanged with the subsurface 1D flow accordingly. If this does not help, please post on our forum with more details (for example with screenshots/illustrations): bentleysystems.service-now.com/community?id=community_forum&sys_id=0310b7ca1b1a3110f3fc5287624bcb80

    What is demand. Should I go to tap of J -6 and tell him that demand is 1000 GPM and flow through the pipe will be come 6.53 feet/sec or when I Tell the J-6 Tap that demand is 500 GPM, flow will automatically change to 3.25 ft/s. What is this miraculous demand??

    • @bentleyopenflows
      @bentleyopenflows 4 месяца назад

      Demand is an assumed outflow, which the model solves around as a "known". For example you may have historical billing meter information on usage where you can reasonably assume that those are the outflows, and then the model will solve around that (pressure, velocity and other results). For some systems (smaller scale or in developing regions for example), you may not be able to assume a specific outflow for the purposes of the hydraulic simulation if that outflow is particularly sensitive to pressure. In those cases, you can use pressure dependent demands (PDD) where you simulate the characteristics of the opening size and the model calculates the outflow based on the pressure. I would suggest reading some academic and engineering reference material such as Bentley's Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management or Computer Applications in Hydraulic Engineering books.

    Great video! Just wanted to point out a small discrepancy in the annotation at 21:35 regarding the reading of the Moody Diagram. The presenter explained it correctly, but the annotations might be a bit misleading. We don’t follow the e/D curve line to the end at the boundary with the laminar regime. If we did, we wouldn’t be able to read friction factor values below 0.04 or above 0.08. The correct way to read the diagram is as follows: 1. Determine the Reynolds number and the relative roughness. 2. Select the appropriate e/D curve. 3. Mark the point where this curve intersects with the Reynolds number. 4. From the marked point, move horizontally straight to the left axis to read the friction factor (f). Hope this helps future viewers! Keep up the good work.

    Can you explain more on how to generate the allowable peak flow Hydrograph?

    • @bentleyopenflows
      @bentleyopenflows 5 месяцев назад

      For the predevelopment conditions, the Modified Rational Method only considers the peak flow and uses that as the target as explained in the video and in the below article. The implementation in the OpenFlows products assumes that you are only looking at the postdevelopment conditions to size the pond and outlet. If you are being asked to show a predevelopment peak and are using PondPack, consider showing the report in Report Builder that illustrates the constructed postdevelopment hydrograph with the predevelopment peak line shown. Or, you could explain to the reviewer how the method works and that there is only a target peak flow. Another option is to set up a separate scenario with a user defined critical Td set to force the model to show a modified rational hydrograph that peaks at the target peak, but it could be misleading. If further help is needed, please post on our forum: communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/f/haestad-hydraulics-and-hydrology-forum communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/w/hydraulics_and_hydrology__wiki/6809/understanding-the-modified-rational-method

    From where prepare the pump definitions information

    • @bentleyopenflows
      @bentleyopenflows 6 месяцев назад

      Can you elaborate on what you are asking for? In general, the pump definition information is entered in the pump definition manager in WaterCAD and WaterGEMS, then you would select the pump definition in the properties of the pump node element. If you are asking how to get the pump definition information (like head vs. flow curve, efficiency, etc), this would typically come from manufacturer specification sheets, or derived from field measurements. For further questions, it would be best to post on our forum: communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/f/haestad-hydraulics-and-hydrology-forum
